Nikky & Marc’s wedding ~ Kingscote Barn, Tetbury

Another real highlight of last year has to be Nikki & Marc’s wedding up in the Cotswolds near Tetbury in July.  I was recommended to them by Liz & Chris whose wedding you might remember back in 2010 in Budleigh Salterton?  As soon as Nikky called we clicked instantly and I knew that it would be a lot of fun to photograph.  The pre-wedding shoot was beautiful and showed off Kingscote Barn in the Spring whilst Nikky & Marc got rid of their camera nerves before the wedding itself.

Chloe and I were invited to stay at her parents’ home in Bath before the wedding (which was a new one for us).  Initially we pondered over whether it would be a bit weird for Nikky to have us there but after walking through the door and two minutes later sitting chatting with friends and family with a glass of red in our hands we  felt instantly at home!  What a fun-loving  and warm bunch of people!.  Needless to say, the wedding was amazing and Kingscote Barn is breathtaking - a winning combination rustic chic.

Nikky and her family and friends had put so much thought into decorating the barn and it was worth every second.  The flowers were the creation of the very talented Sarah of  Aqua Florist, and the rest for the tables at the barn etc were taken care of by one of Nikky’s friends.  Another friend and makeup artist Sophie Bee set to work doing a fantastic job. It really felt that everyone was happy to have a part in the day and even one of Nikky’s closest girlfriends, Becks bravely stood up and made a speech after the meal alongside the two Best Men.  Another friend and bridesmaid Hannah drove Nikky and her Dad to the church in a vintage Moris Minor and her brother took to the driver’s seat after the ceremony.  The list is endless and you get the picture - what an amazing bunch of friends and family!

It doesn’t surprise me to hear that since the wedding, Kingscote Barn were one of the winners at the Wedding Industry Awards 2012 – really well deserved!

I will let the photos do the talking as I could rave about Nikki and Marc and their wedding day for quite some time…

Lucy & Tom’s beautiful garden party wedding

It’s hard to explain how much I loved photographing Lucy & Tom’s wedding.  All I can say is that I’m so lucky to have clients like them and I look back with nothing but fond memories.

They chose the church in their local village of Cadbury here in Devon, then headed back to the family home for the wedding reception in a marquee in the garden, and it really was the most amazing marquee, complete with cream carpet, fairy lights and reveal curtain for the first dance – stunning!  It was also dressed beautifully with flowers from florist Rachel King and lots of other handmade trimmings that Lucy had put together herself.  Yvonne of Cherry Blossom also created the most divine masterpeice with her lace-themed cake.  Last but not least, any wedding that incorporates Percy Pigs gets my vote!

Claire Mathers and Tereza H did an amazing job on the hair and makeup – everyone looked so elegant.  Lucy’s dress was a stunning Kate Sherford number from Sassi Holford‘s Taunton boutique, coincidentally from the same boutique as Elly’s in my previous blog post!  Lucy fell in love with the Gina shoes and knew that she HAD to have them, so she opted for a more classic pair during the day then switched to the crystal Ginas for the dancing – perfect!

Ben Ford‘s horses did an amazing job pulling the carriage up an incredibly steep hill and got Lucy to the church in one piece (she was a little worried about the hill!).

Thanks so much to Lucy & Tom’s friends and families for being so warm and such such good fun, it really does make the job amazing.

Big thanks as  to Chloe as ever who second shot with me at the wedding, and in particular for the fantastic shots at the pub of the guys playing darts over a couple of beers! X

Elly & Pete tie the knot

I was so delighted to be asked to capture Elly & Pete’s wedding back in the summer, especially as I’ve known them for quite a few years and knew Elly before she met Pete so have been around as their relationship has flourished over the years!..  It was a beautiful sunny day in Torquay and we headed to Meadfoot beach after the ceremony for some fun shots of the two of them.  The sea air really relaxed us all after the ceremony and I was flattered when they mentionned afterwards that the photos on the beach were a highlight on the day.  Rather than just aiming to capture great shots, one of my main purposes at this point in the day is to create an enjoyable time for my clients.

The party took place at home where various members of the family have enjoyed wedding celebrations in times gone by – how special is that?

Elly wore the most stunning dress Sassi Holford dress, which provided her with two different looks during the day.  A lace number on top for the ceremony and reception, then a black sash for the partying later.  By chance, Chloe and I met Sassi and her husband at security at the airport on our way to the Love My Dress Soiree the week after the wedding.  It was great to be able to show them a quick snapshot on the plane on the way home of how fabulous Elly looked in one of her creations.

The flowers were quite something else and Blue Geranium excelled themselves. Wait until you see the green balls of foliage suspended from the ceiling of the marquee - incredible!

Chloe and I gasped when we saw the magical light on the staircase (geeky I know!), I was at the top and she was at the bottom.  My favourites are Chloe’s photos looking up at Elly’s super-cute flower girls.

Elly and Pete converted the garden shed into a photobooth – hours of entertainment with some exceptional wigs going on!

WOW! We loved this wedding last year! Elly & Pete, not forgetting the wonderful Bindy & Nigel and Elly’s sister Hannah have been amazing supporters of Blue Geranium since we began almost five years ago.

Charlotte & Jason’s Great Barn Wedding

Well it has been a busy time here and I’m finally able to blog a little more now (I hope) while it’s slightly calmer.  I promise to put lots of 2011 highlights up on here over the next few weeks and sorry if I went a little quiet on you recently.  I feel that it’s a bit self-indulgent to spend time blogging loads when there are weddings to edit and albums to get out of the door.  In an ideal world I’d do both – maybe this year?..

I thought I’d start with Charlotte & Jason’s wedding as it was a real highlight of the year.  On days like this I really have to pinch myself that this is ‘work’.  The people really make it for me, and everyone was so warm and relaxed and the day just seemed to flow.  They chose one of my favourite local venues The Great Barn in the Teign Valley where one of my closest friends tied the knot a few years ago, so I always drive there with happy memories of that amazing day and it feels so welcoming and homely there.  Charlotte and her bridesmaids and parents chose to get ready in Yard Cottage there so they literally had to walk across the courtyard and into the barn itself for the ceremony.  I think the simplicity of this worked so well for them and meant there was time for lots of fun and laughter beforehand.

Charlotte has impeccable taste and all of the details, her dress, flowers were elegant and unfussy.  She chose an Ian Stuart dress from The Bridal Rooms of Wellswood, where incidentally I bought my own wedding dress four years ago.  She teamed it with a classy pair of LK Bennett heels and a beautiful headpiece and veil.  The bouquets were the creation of Joanna Game and were perfect.  I have got to know Joanna recently through various events and shoots and I’m a big fan of her work.  A friend of Charlotte’s family crafted the flowers for the venue and they were a real work of art.  Anyway, enough of the talking - I hope you enjoy the photos..

Sharryn Hinchcliffe, who I’ve worked with in the past did an amazing job on the hair and make-up front..

I love how proud Charlotte’s Dad looks when she walks into the room.

I popped outside to capture a few shots of the guys outside the barn.

Here come the girls.. How stunning?

Dartmoor Kitchen served the guests with divine looking food as ever.  Check out these mini scones!

It really was a great time to photograph at The Great Barn and we were lucky enough to be there twice in two weeks for weddings, using the virginia creeper as the perfect backdrop.

Cheeses from my local vineyard here in Totnes – Sharpham!

 Thanks for stopping by,

Sarah x

Merry Christmas all x

We’re having a relaxing one at this end getting everything ready for tomorrow.  Particularly loved my eldest daughter’s letter to Santa tonight and the fact that she tried to spell out “appreciate” – bless her!  Also loving that she still believes in Santa despite seeing so many Santas around this year - we were starting to get many suspicious questions!  She also included the whole family in the letter so that made me smile.  However, I’m slightly concerned that she remembers exactly what wrapping paper Santa used last year as he might have used the same this year (oops)..

So what are you all up to over Christmas?  Today was filled with friends and family and I love that Christmas brings everyone together over great food and a few drinks.

Chloe and I were lucky enough to shoot three beautiful weddings this week, and as I drove back from yesterday’s I felt so lucky to work with someone who makes me laugh til I cry.   Then this morning we rushed over to friends of ours to drop off presents as they were supposedly on a tight schedule today.  Instead of that they were all in their PJs and I drove off so so grateful to have great friends who feel comfortable enough with us to hang out in their PJs over breakfast.  You know who you are and I love you for your relaxed way of life..  We also got to skype a really close friend in New Zealand tonight and meet his fiance and bump (very soon to be new addition) and that was also amazing.

Right, am getting sentimental..will sign off for now and say a big fat ’Merry Christmas’ to all my friends, family and clients.  Have the most fantastic time with your nearest and dearest and those of you with kids tonight.. well I hope they poured as big a glass of brandy for Father Christmas as mine did..  Well, it would be rude not to drink it XXX
